Holy camp site, Batman! After a fabulously successful season on TV, the campy comic book adventure hit the big screen, complete with painful puns, outrageous supervillains, and fights punctuated with word balloons sporting such onomatopoeic syllables as “Pow!,” “Thud!,” and “Blammo!” Adam West’s wooden Batman is the cowled vigilante alter ego of straight-arrow millionaire Bruce Wayne and Bruce Ward’s Robin (a.k.a. Dick Grayson, Bruce’s young collegiate protégé) his overeager sidekick in hot pants. Together they battle an unholy alliance of Gotham City’s greatest criminals: the Joker (Cesar Romero, whooping up a storm), the Riddler (giggling Frank Gorshin), the Penguin (cackling Burgess Meredith), and the purr-fectly sexy Catwoman (Lee Meriwether slinking in a skin-tight black bodysuit). The criminals are, naturally, out to conquer the world, but with a little help from their unending supply of utility belt devices (bat shark repellent, anyone?), our dynamic duo thwarts their nefarious plans at every turn. Since the TV show ran under 30 minutes an episode (with commercials), the 105-minute film runs a little thin–a little camp goes a long way–but fans of the small-screen show will enjoy the spoofing tone throughout. Leslie H. Martinson directs Lorenzo Semple’s screenplay like a big-budget TV episode minus the cliffhanger endings. –Sean Axmaker

Shameful of 20th Century Fox![]()
What a joke!!! As others have metioned, this is the EXACT same DVD as the 2001 release with just different artwork. It’s no secret that Warner Bros. and 20th Century Fox cannot come up with a “shared profits” agreement for the 1966 Adam West Batman TV series. That’s why the series hasn’t been released yet on DVD…but to release this DVD now is just a greedy attempt at cashing in on the upcoming new Warner Bros. Batman movie due out later in July. Save your money and find the 2001 DVD version of this movie in the bargain bin, if you don’t already own it. Oh, and by the way, 20th Century Fox….tinting Adam West’s costume to a darker black on the back of the DVD case isn’t fooling anyone. Give us the 1966 series on DVD and quit being greedy!!!!….you’ll still make a bundle of money!!!
Holy Excellent Movie, Batman![]()
Holy Review Here, Batman!
I’ve always liked Batman the Movie with Adam West as Batman and sidekick Burt Ward as Robin.
I remember watching this back in 1979 as a 3 year old on local TV.
This movie is the one to watch when there’s nothing to do.
I hope that the TV series come out someday.
It’s worth Bat-Keeping in that special Bat-Archive section.
Holy Movie Time, Batman.
SAME AS THE 2001 RELEASE![]()
Well I purchased this 2008 version and have learned it is identical to the 2001 release. All the interviews are from the last release. The only difference is the packaging ! All the interviews mention the 35th anniversary of Batman the series but we are now at a 42 year anniversary. Its a great movie with wonderful extras but it would have been nice of Fox to add a little something extra since they re-released this disc. If you own the 2001 edition as I do you will be disapointed spending more money for a package with a red bat. Well I guess that is one way for Fox to ride the coat tails of Warner Bros pending the new Dark Knight movie.
Do not waste your money on this edition if you have the 2001 edition !!!!
